CAS Talks on Geothermal and Fuel Cells 2023

 

A bout the Speaker: Fangming Jiang is a full professor at the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He founded the Laboratory of Advanced Energy Systems and has been serving as the director of this laboratory since 2011. He got his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of CAS in 2001, and M Sc and B E degrees from Chongqing University in 1998 and 1995, respectively. During 2002-2011, he worked successively in IMM-GmbH (Germany), the University of Aveiro (Portugal), and Pennsylvania State University (USA). Prof. Jiang is active in research areas of thermofluidics, geothermal energy exploitation, fuel cell and Li-ion battery science and technology, CFD, etc. He has authored 2 books, 7 book chapters, and more than 200 peer-reviewed journal articles. He holds about 50 invention patents and copyrights 30+ computational programs. He has contributed to more than 100 academic conferences, including tens of invited/keynote/plenary lectures.

A bout the Speaker: Dr. Nader Montazerin received a BSc in mechanical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran, an MSc in gas turbine technology, and a PhD in applied energy, both from Cranfield University, England. He is now a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology, Iran, and has been lecturing on thermodynamics, turbomachinery, and compressible flow for more than 35 years. He has done extensive research in the industry on energy management, gas turbines, and natural gas networks. His research work also includes experimental fluid mechanics, fans, and artificial intelligence. Among many other publications, he also published a book with Elsevier on “Developments in Turbomachinery Flow”.

About the Spekaer: Dr Mohammad Reza Hajmohammadi is recognized as a renowned researcher in the field of thermal science and heat transfer enhancement, having been ranked as one of the world’s top 2% of most influential scientists by Stanford University. Currently holding the position of Associate Professor and Deputy of Educational and undergraduate affairs within the Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Hajmohammadi specializes in thermal design, optimization, and management, with specific applications in electronics cooling, heat exchangers, gas turbine blades, and clean energy systems. He actively engages with the academic community by presenting lecture notes and serving as a peer reviewer, associate editor, scientific chair, and member of the editorial board for national and international journals and conferences.

About the speaker: Lin Wei is a scientific researcher at the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). She obtained her BE degree from China University of Petroleum in 2010, and her PhD degree in Chemical Process Machinery from Zhejiang University in 2015. She is mainly engaged in the research of electrochemical energy systems and has made many original achievements in the development of multi-physical numerical models for fuel cells and the research of hydrothermal management. She has published 7 peer-reviewed journal articles in SCI/EI as the first author, applied for 4 invention patents, and obtained 2 software copyrights.

A bout the speaker: M. J. Kermani is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in thermal fluids, at Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic), Iran. He obtained his BSC from Shiraz University, Iran, in Mechanical Engineering as the 2nd ranked student in 1991; MSC from the University of Manchester, UK, in Applied Mathematics & Fluid Mechanics, as the top student in 1993, and PhD from Carleton University, Canada in 2001. Then he performed a two-year Post-Doctoral-Fellowship is University of New Brunswick, Canada joint with the Departments of Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering, where he was also hired as a sessional lecturer. He has over 20 years of experience in the design of fluid mechanics mechanisms for internal and external flows. His recent emphasis is on flow distributors of fuel cells. He is the recipient of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) fellowship at the full professor level (in 2021), the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship at the experienced researcher level (2012-2014), the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) grant (in 2018), recipient of first poster prize, First MITACS Atlantic Interchange, Halifax, Canada, and a few more. He has one European Patent in the performance enhancement of fuel cell flow distributors. He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, and supervised 50+ graduate students. He is an adjunct fellow of Zentrum fuer Sonnenenergie-und Wasserstoff-Forschung (ZSW), Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research, Ulm, Germany.
