Abstract: The mixture cure model, in which a component of the population is cured of or immune to the disease, has received large and growing attention recently.

We review recent advances and point out areas where further work is needed. Classical extreme value theory plays a significant role. Results are illustrated with Boag’s classic breast cancer data set.
